Dollars for Agriculture: David Cleary of the Nature Conservancy

The following article deals with the topic “Promoting Food Security: The Contribution of Climate Smart Agriculture” which is currently under discussion at the Global Economic Symposium in Rio.

In this audio interview, journalist Naomi Conrad from Deutsche Welle interviews David Cleary, Strategy Director of Agriculture with the Nature Conservancy. Mr Cleary points out the difficulty of convincing governments in the developed world to invest further in agriculture research, extension programs, etc.  This contrasts sharply with the level of interest of many developing Asian and Latin American countries, whose citizens experienced significant malnutrition and food insecurity in the recent past.
